The City of St. Joseph is holding its mayoral primary election on Feb. 3, with four candidates seeking to advance to the April 7 general election or win the position outright should they receive more than 50% of the primary vote.

The primary election for the next Mayor of St Joseph is on Feb. 3. There's an opportunity to meet the candidates on Jan. 28, when the city's Chamber of Commerce kicks off its 2026 Public Affairs Coffee series with a Mayoral Forum. The event takes place from 7:30 to 8:30 am at the Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center.

After two months, nearly a dozen meetings, and multiple reversals, the St Joseph School District Board of Education says it has committed on a vote to close Lafayette High School and convert the building to a middle school beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. The vote will occur at their board meeting on Nov. 24, which has been the board’s self-imposed deadline to decide on a school consolidation plan as it faces a funding crisis.
