Missouri River

Four Minnesota paddlers will set off Tuesday from western Montana, traveling 2,341 miles to break a 46-year speed record on the Missouri River.

After years of construction, the Kansas City Streetcar Authority's Riverfront extension is now open. The 0.7-mile extension takes the streetcar from its previous northern terminus of the River Market to the Berkley Riverfront.

Bluffs up to 120 feet tall once hugged the Missouri River by Kansas City, making it difficult to traverse the landscape and expand the growing town. So in the mid-1800s, a Catholic priest named Father Bernard Donnelly recruited hundreds of Irish immigrants for a dangerous but critical task: digging streets for the city from rocks and mud.
