Changes are coming to Bearcat Stadium this summer.
After the synthetic playing surface that was installed in 2016 reached the end of its runway, crews began ripping up the old turf football field. A new playing surface will go down immediately and be complete well in advance of fall camp later in August.
In addition to a new playing surface, season ticket holders will see updates when they arrive for the home opener. Updates in the stands on the pressbox side include larger chair back seats will be installed, as well as new railback seating.
A new video board is also part of the upgrades around Northwest's football stadium. It stems back to a push to better the fan experience.
"We're trying to really elevate it — that's one of my goals here," Northwest deputy athletic director Tim Yourison said. "We've got a great product on the field, we have phenomenal fans. I want to see Bearcat Stadium sold out every single week, so I take that on myself of what can we do to increase the fan experience?"
Yourison adds that there will be changes for gameday parking with the opportunity to reserve a spot for the season for one flat fee. He discussed the changes around football home games and changes surrounding the booster club in the latest Bearcat Rewind.
Northwest football plays its first home game September 12 against Washburn.
