Maas secures Northwest's first triple-double in dominant performance

Northwest Athletics
Sadie Maas is having a breakout sophomore season, and is among the MIAA leaders in blocked shots and rebounds.

Sadie Maas etched her name in the Northwest Missouri State record books with a dominant performance Thursday night in Joplin.

The sophomore forward posted the first triple-double in program history with 17 points, 18 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots in a 65-60 win over Missouri Southern. It marks only the 15th triple-double in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season and fourth in the MIAA.

Maas matched a career-high with 15 points in a win Saturday over Rogers State, but took it to another level in a hostile environment.

Northwest Missouri State put together a stifling defensive effort that began at the opening tip. The Lions, previously second in the MIAA scoring 75 points per game, managed just seven in the first quarter. The block party also got underway in the initial 10 minutes with Northwest recording four rejections in the period — three from Maas and one from Maggie Collins.

Northwest held Missouri Southern to a season-low 28.8% shooting for the game, and handed the Lions their first home loss of the year.

Maas is the only Bearcat, in women's or men's basketball, to register a double-digit block game. The 10 blocks for the Waukee, IA product Thursday night passed the previous Northwest record of nine set by Kyla Roehrig in 2011. She now sits at 58 blocks during the 2025-26 campaign, good for second in a single-season in program history. Her 106 career blocks moves her within one of Shelby Mustain for third most by a Bearcat.

Maas' 18-rebounds are tied for ninth most in a single-game at Northwest. She drew even with eight other former Bearcats, including Mallory McConkey (2019) and Kelsey Fields (2023) who also hit the mark while playing for head coach Austin Meyer.

During Northwest's current four-game win streak, Maas is averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per contest. They will go for five straight wins Saturday on the road against Pittsburg State.
