Northwest Athletics

Northwest Missouri State indoor track & field closes in on the MIAA Championships and the basketball regular season concludes this week, while Bearcat softball and baseball remain hot.

Northwest softball posted a perfect weekend at the Washburn Invitational, outscoring Rockhurst, Montana State Billings, Drury and Montana State by a grand total of 30 runs in the four games combined. Bearcat head coach Naomi Tellez, center fielder Emma Hague and catcher Kaylee Cords joined the show to highlight the dominant weekend.

The Bearcats closed down the regular season for indoor track & field with the Northwest Tune Up last Thursday. Junior Truman Hare ran in the men's 4x400 meter relay alongside Danny Jantzen, Christian Lanphier and Josh Fraker to post the second fastest time in school history. Then, Hare ran the next day in the 400 at the Kansas State Steve Miller Invitational and set a meet record with a personal best 46.81 seconds. Hare and head coach Brandon Masters discussed the performances and the upcoming MIAA Championships.

Northwest women's basketball already punched its ticket to the MIAA Tournament, now the focus is on solidifying seeding and earning a first round bye. The Bearcats have won seven straight ahead of this weekend's final road trip through Wichita and Emporia, KS. Senior Ella Moody and sophomore Brooklyn Stanley spoke about the momentum the team is feeling and what is still ahead.

The tennis season really begins to heat up with a spring break road trip coming for Northwest. A dip down south will include stops at Ouachita Baptist, Harding, Arkansas Fort Smith, Southern Arkansas, and Arkansas Tech, along with an additional match for the women against Henderson State mixed in. Northwest assistant coach Carolina Oliveira and freshman Konstantin Feiel spoke with John Coffey about the competition.

Northwest baseball swung big bats against Fort Hays State in the first conference series of the season, taking two games and cranking out 28 total runs. This week takes the Bearcats on the road to face a formidable Emporia State club. Head coach Tony Jandron and junior John Connors joined the program ahead of the road trip.
