As the winter sports begin to wind down, Northwest baseball opens up at home and softball heads to Topeka, KS.
The final home games for Northwest Missouri State basketball are coming Thursday and Saturday, and the Bearcats are hitting the final stretch to clinch a spot in the MIAA Tournament. John Coffey spoke with men's basketball head coach Matt Keeley and senior Aiden Gair about this week's matchups with Northeastern State and Arkansas Fort Smith.
Fresh off a series win over Colorado State Pueblo, Northwest baseball will return home for an adjusted weekend of games against Fort Hays State. Due to weather, the series will shift to a doubleheader Thursday and a single game Friday. Head coach Tony Jandron and senior pitcher Ben Haug highlighted the weekend and what to expect.
Bearcat tennis earned neutral site wins over Colorado Mesa last weekend. The Bearcats will get the chance to play Creighton in Omaha Thursday, followed by an exhibition with Cowley College this Saturday in St. Joseph. Head coach Mark Rosewell and freshmen Elena Williams and Jules Subra spoke about the opportunity ahead of the teams.
The indoor track & field season is winding down, but Northwest continues to put up jaw-dropping times. Riley Witt set the program record with a 3:59.07 mile in a meet in Boston over the weekend. Witt, a senior from Osage, IA, and coach Wick Cunningham discussed the record-setting performance and the approach over the final two weeks before the MIAA Championships.
Northwest softball picked up three more wins over the weekend to move to 8-5. It included head coach Naomi Tellez's 100th victory and sophomore Kaylee Cords' first home run. This week the Bearcats will play five games in Topeka, KS at the Washburn Invitational. Tellez and Cords spoke about the hot start to the spring.
A February push has Northwest women's basketball climbing the MIAA standings. With four games remaining, the Bearcats are tied for sixth, with a couple more teams within reach. Sophomores Brooklyn Stanley and Sadie Maas have been integral during the team's five-game win streak. They joined the show to discuss the success and the bigger roles they've taken on this year.
