November 11 Bearcat Coaches Show

Olivia Bakker and Aziz Mohammed are two of the runners that will represent Northwest Missouri State at the NCAA National Championship meet.

Northwest Missouri State fall sports teams get set to complete the regular season, while Bearcat basketball returns to the hardwood for a pair of games in St. Joseph.

For the first time since 2021, Northwest football claimed a share of the MIAA title with a dominant victory against Missouri Western. Now the Bearcats shift their focus to a showdown in Kansas City, KS with Pittsburg State for the regular season finale. Head coach John McMenamin and senior running back Dominic Myers set the table for the matchup on this week's program.

A fight for the eighth and final spot in the MIAA Tournament commences this weekend as the volleyball regular season comes to a close. Northwest is battling with Fort Hays, Missouri Southern and Arkansas Fort Smith for a postseason berth. Head coach Amy Woerth and senior Karsen VanScoy discussed the scenarios on the show.

The season came to a close for Northwest soccer over the weekend in a heartbreaking MIAA Tournament quarterfinal meeting with Missouri Western. The teams were knotted 1-1 through regulation and two overtimes before the Griffons won in penalty kicks. Head Coach Marc Gordon, junior Ximena Arnau, and sophomore Emma Cook spoke with John Coffey about the year ending prematurely, but a campaign that still featured so much success.

Northwest Missouri State cross country continued its dominance on the men's side with a Central Region title, led by senior Aziz Mohammed taking first individually just ahead of teammate Drew Atkins in second. The Bearcat women also put together a good showing with a fifth place team finish, including Olivia Bakker netting a ninth place finish thanks to a personal best in the 6K. Bearcat coach Wick Cunningham, Mohammed, and Bakker were guests on this week's show as the team now prepares for the NCAA National Championship Meet in Kenosha, WI on November 22.

Bearcat men's basketball returns to the hardwood this weekend in the annual Hillyard Tip-Off Classic hosted by Missouri Western in St. Joseph. Northwest opens with St. Cloud State Friday, followed by Augustana on Saturday. Head coach Matt Keeley and senior guard Royce Williams joined the show to look ahead at the matchups.

The Northwest women's team will take aim at their first wins of the season in St. Joseph this weekend. They will be across town from the men's team at the Central Region Showcase with games against Sioux Falls and Wayne State. Bearcat seniors Ella Moody and Emree Zars set the table for the weekend of games.
