October 28 Bearcat Coaches Show

Northwest Missouri State head soccer coach Marc Gordon, sophomore Lillie Shaw and senior Lily Ellis get set for a big weekend with just three matches remaining.

The crossover season has arrived at Northwest Missouri State with the fall sports teams making a postseason push, and the basketball teams open up non-conference play.

Bearcat soccer is getting set for a pivotal matchup with league-leading Washburn Friday, then Emporia State Sunday. Head coach Marc Gordon, sophomore Lillie Shaw and senior Lily Ellis spoke with John Coffey about the success the team is seeing and the different feel around the program with each match in 2025.

Northwest football rides a seven-game win streak into this weekend's matchup with Emporia State. The Bearcats continue to dominate teams up front with a strong rushing attack, and defensively, the front seven forming a brick wall against opposing running backs. Head coach John McMenamin and sophomore Te'Shaun Porter spoke about the upcoming game with the Hornets in Emporia, KS.

Just over two weeks remain in the volleyball regular season — enough time for Northwest to put together a run and climb the MIAA standings. The program celebrated 50 years of Bearcat volleyball with current players and alumni over the weekend. This Friday and Saturday they host Emporia State and Washburn, respectively. Head coach Amy Woerth and senior Ella Caffery discussed the celebration over the weekend, and carrying that energy into a pair of home matches.

The basketball season begins this week in the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic from the Civic Arena in St. Joseph. The Bearcat women open up Friday at 1pm against Adams State, followed by the men's team at 5pm against Minnesota State. From the women's squad, redshirt freshmen Kenzie Melcher and Avery Yosten joined the program to discuss the upcoming season. From the men's team, head coach Matt Keeley and senior Trey Moala spoke about the fresh start this weekend.

The MIAA Championships in cross country had a familiar look on the podium last weekend. The Northwest men's team won its second straight conference title and third overall in Pittsburg, KS over the weekend, while the women's team earned a fourth place finish. Coach Wick Cunningham and sophomores Olivia Bakker and John Langill were guests on the program highlighting the success on the course and the historical significance for the teams.
