A City of Chillicothe employee has resigned following the discovery of an apparent financial irregularity involving city funds that is now under criminal investigation.
City officials said the issue was uncovered after irregularities were identified in city account records. The city's outside auditor, Conrad and Higgins, was brought in to conduct an investigation.
Officials said the apparent misuse of city funds appears to involve less than $10,000.
The city has notified its insurance carrier and implemented new procedures to strengthen financial oversight.
Officials also said the Chillicothe Police Department has submitted a probable cause statement to the Livingston County Prosecutor for review. No charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
