Missouri updates livestock entry rules amid New World Screwworm concerns

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has updated animal movement requirements for livestock and other domestic animals entering the state from areas near New World Screwworm infestations.

Effective immediately, animals entering Missouri from New World Screwworm adjacent surveillance zones must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection completed within five days of entry, along with additional required documentation. Existing restrictions for animals originating from infested zones remain unchanged.

State Veterinarian Dr. Steve Strubberg said the updated requirements reflect the evolving New World Screwworm situation in the United States.

Agriculture officials said there are no reported cases of the parasite in Missouri and emphasized that the U.S. food supply remains safe.
