The Saint Joseph Symphony will celebrate Women’s History Month with a Women’s March concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the historic Missouri Theater.

The performance will highlight the artistic achievements, leadership and creative voices of women in classical music, offering audiences a mix of storytelling, community engagement and live orchestral works.

Executive Director Nancy Brunson said experiencing music in a live setting provides benefits that go beyond entertainment.

“There are so many studies now that talk about experiencing music completely live … does things for the brain and the body that are so important for stress relief and for health,” Brunson said. “If you go to a concert hall and you sit there and you experience this music live, I guarantee you you’re going to feel better when you walk out.”

The program will feature works by composers Louise Farrenc, Marianna Martines, Florence Price and Jessie Montgomery.

Throughout March, the symphony has partnered with local women entrepreneurs and community leaders through social media to expand outreach. Brunson said the organization also highlighted female contributors to St. Joseph’s history, as well as its own female principal musicians.

Tickets are available online at saintjosephsymphony.org, by phone Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 816-233-7701, or at the door. Admission includes a wine and dessert reception beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday.
