Mosaic Maryville welcomes two new physicians to rural health residency program

Mosaic Medical Center — Maryville is welcoming two new resident physicians to its rural health training program.

Dr. Paras Oli, of Kathmandu, Nepal, and Dr. Murad Mehmood, of Doha, Qatar, have been selected for the University of Missouri-Kansas City Family Medicine Rural Health Track Program in Maryville.

Oli completed medical school at Nepal Medical College and has experience providing care in remote and earthquake-affected regions of Nepal. Mehmood studied in Lahore, Pakistan, and is currently completing an emergency department residency in Qatar.

The rural track is part of the UMKC Family Medicine Program and follows a one-plus-two model. Residents spend their first year in Kansas City at University Health Lakewood Medical Center before completing their final two years in Maryville.

Program director Dr. Lori Snook says the initiative plays an important role in strengthening access to rural health care by training physicians within the community.

Two new residents are selected each year as part of ongoing efforts to expand medical care in northwest Missouri.
