The Maryville R-2 School District Board of Education has completed its superintendent hiring process and announced that Philip Pohren will serve as the district’s next superintendent, officially beginning his new role on Nov. 1.
The position has been vacant since February, when the district began its search for a new leader. Pohren has been serving as interim superintendent during that time, providing stability and direction as the board worked through the hiring process.
Pohren is well known within the district and community. Before taking on the interim role, he served as principal of Eugene Field Elementary for six years and as an assistant superintendent in the district. His long history with Maryville R-2 has made him a familiar and trusted figure among staff, students, and families.
According to a release from the district, the superintendent search was conducted with support from the Missouri Association of Rural Education and drew “a strong pool of candidates from across a three-state region.” After reviewing applications and conducting interviews, the board ultimately selected Pohren for his experience, leadership skills, and deep understanding of the district’s goals and challenges.
“The Board of Education is excited to have Mr. Pohren continue leading our district,” the statement read. “He has demonstrated strong leadership, integrity, and a commitment to serving the students and community of Maryville.”
Pohren holds degrees from the University of Iowa and Northwest Missouri State University and is currently pursuing his doctorate in educational leadership. He said he looks forward to continuing the district’s work in student achievement, staff support, and community engagement.
The district said it will host a welcome reception in the coming weeks to celebrate Pohren’s appointment and give staff and community members a chance to meet with him in his new role.
