Northwest Missouri State University will host the Fall Ploghoft Diversity Lecture this evening in the Student Union Ballroom.
The lecture series, endowed in memory of longtime professor Milton Ploghoft and his wife, Zela, aims to broaden perspectives within the field of education.
Jamie Grayson, director of People of All Communities Succeeding Together — known as POAC Succeed — will deliver this evening’s lecture titled “Teaching Beyond the Desk.” The Kansas City–based nonprofit works to address disconnects between educators and students.
“There’s a gap where teachers, educators, do not understand … focus on the learning,” Grayson said, noting that unaddressed trauma can lead to challenges beyond the classroom, affecting workplaces, families, and communities.
Grayson’s talk will focus on supporting the whole student to help close those gaps. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 9, in the Student Union Ballroom and is open to the public.
