The Cultural Corner Art Guild and Gallery is looking for about 30 artists to volunteer at the upcoming Chautauqua in the Park in Chillicothe. The artists would be positioned at different areas of Simpson Park throughout the event to paint what they are seeing. Director of Cultural Corner, Kayla Henry, says the artists are asked to donate their time and supplies but canvases will be provided. She says the paintings created during the Chautauqua will be used as a fund raiser.
"We're actually going to do an auction of all of the pieces that are painted to help support local non-profits with these benefits of the pieces at the auction.", says Henry.
Henry adds she is hoping the paintings will reflect this year's event.
"They'll be painting anything from something that is going on with the volunteers at a booth, maybe some customers that are walking through, maybe just a different scene that they are seeing based on the landscape of the event. Really just anything they're going to be seeing based on where they are sat up at.", says Henry.
This year's Chautauqua in the Park is Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7. Henry says artists who have registered should bring the materials they would need to paint a scene on the day they have agreed to work. The Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce and Cultural Corner will provide an 18 by 24 canvas. More information about participating or about Chautauqua in Park is available by calling 660-646-4050.
