Homelessness

In many U.S. cities, even those without camping bans, officials are more aggressive with removing encampments from public spaces. People experiencing homelessness say they're moving frequently and experiencing anxiety.

Waypoint was designed to accommodate a significant number of people who need a consistent place to overnight in Columbia.

The Voluntary Action Center headquarters opened April 6, with other services on the campus to open in the coming months.

Executive Director Meleah Spencer said they'll use the money to expand their shelter program.
