The biggest football game of the year will come with local ties.
When the Seattle offense takes the field Sunday to face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, Jalen Sundell will be leading the charge.
Sundell, a 2018 Maryville High School graduate, has started all 15 games at center that he's been active for this season, including the NFC Divisional round game and NFC Championship. Even at the highest level, Sundell still brings the same energy he displayed while suiting up for the Spoofhounds on Friday nights nearly 10 years ago.
"When we talk to high school guys and you say 'what type of effort do you want our Spoofhounds to play with,' (Jalen's) a great example," Matt Webb, Maryville head football coach and athletic director, said. "Watch 61. He sets the huddle. He sets their protection. He's a student of the game."
Sundell has been a stalwart at center for Seattle. He signed as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2024 season, and earned the starting job as a second-year pro. The Seahawks paired him with former North Dakota State teammate Grey Zabel at guard this season.
"They want guys like Jalen and Grey to anchor their offensive line. It's not just because they're the biggest and strongest, it's because of the type of people they are."
With a pair of Bison paving the way, the Seahawks have scored a combined 72 points through their two playoff wins.
Kickoff for Super Bowl LX is Sunday at 5:30pm.
