Northwest Missouri State University is gearing up for its first athletics-only fundraising event as October begins.
The Bleed Green Athletic Day of Giving is a 30-hour window stretching through the first two days of October for alumni, community members, fans and stakeholders to rally together to raise funds and support individual teams, strength and conditioning, athletic training, and the athletic department as a whole.
"We want our student-athletes to have an elite experience," Northwest deputy AD Tim Yourison said. "We want to make sure we're doing the food, the fuel, the nutrition, and doing everything we need to make sure those student-athletes are able to compete at a high-level."
"It's not all just for the bright and shiny. There are a lot of things that go into running an athletic department that we want to enhance and take care of for these student-athletes."
Gifts of any size are welcome. The athletic department set a goal of bringing in more than 1,000 individual donors and three contributions per Northwest student-athlete.
"We're not looking for everybody to pull out their checkbook and write $1,000 checks, but $5, $10 here, couple $100 donations — those are all going to add up and make a difference for Bearcat athletics."
The listing of participating groups and challenges issued are available on the event's website.
