Bearcats crack AFCA, D2Football.com national polls

Aaron Hare, Northwest Athletics
The Bearcats celebrated a 38-16 win over Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon.

A four-game win streak propelled Northwest Missouri State back into the national polls for the first time since August of 2024.

The Bearcats (4-1, 3-0 MIAA) are No. 24 in the AFCA D2 Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the D2Football.com rankings. It's the first time they've been in either top 25 since last year's preseason polls.

Since a season-opening loss to Minnesota State, Northwest has reeled off victories over Washburn, Texas A&M Kingsville, Missouri Southern and defending MIAA champion Central Oklahoma. They now sit all alone atop the conference. Pittsburg State is the only other MIAA team to join the Bearcats in each national poll.

Northwest is powered by a balanced attack. They're currently second in the league averaging 31.2 points per game, while leading the pack in scoring defense allowing just 19.0 points each week.

The Bearcats now carry that momentum into a well-deserved bye week this Saturday. The next Northwest football game is on the road October 11 against Central Missouri.
