Power's performance pulls in MIAA honor

Aaron Hare, Northwest Athletics

Northwest Missouri State senior defensive lineman Clayton Power reeled in his first career interception on Saturday. Two days later he nabbed his first MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Power posted 3 tackles in the Bearcats' 21-14 win over Missouri Southern, and the senior defensive lineman also made the play that led to the game-winning score.

Power intercepted Lions' quarterback Tillman Martin at the line of scrimmage with 4:35 left in the game. Three plays later, Chris Ruhnke hit Dominic Myers for a 25-yard touchdown pass to open a 14-point lead.

The Stilwell, Kansas native, was a 2nd Team All-MIAA selection as a junior in 2024.

Power and the Bearcats have won three straight and return home this Saturday at 1:30pm to meet No. 15 Central Oklahoma. It is a matchup of the only two teams with 2-0 records in the MIAA.
