Northwest 49, Texas A&M Kingsville 20

Aaron Hare, Northwest Athletics
Northwest quarterback Chris Ruhnke completed 80% of his passes, including four touchdowns, on Saturday.

Northwest Missouri State racked up 646 total yards in a home-opening win over Texas A&M Kingsville Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (2-1, 1-0 MIAA) used a balanced attack to pull away in their first matchup with the Javelinas since 2010.

Dominic Myers and Quincy Torry each eclipsed triple-digits in rushing yards for the first time in their careers to lead the way. As a team, the Bearcats ran for 305 yards and passed for 341.

Chris Ruhnke was an efficient 16-20 passing for 229 yards. He threw his lone interception in the red zone late in the first half, but responded with two of his four touchdown passes after halftime.

The Northwest defense limited a high-flying Texas A&M Kingsville offense that tallied 60 points in a week one win over Lincoln (CA). Carter Edwards and Antwon Jenkins each finished with an interception.

The next test will be on the road for the third time in the first four weeks of the season. Northwest meets Missouri Southern in Joplin on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 4pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 3pm.
