No. 11 Minnesota State upended Northwest Missouri State 38-14 Thursday evening in Mankato, MN.
The Bearcats (0-1) failed to gain traction offensively against the Mavericks early on with five punts, two turnovers and a turnover on downs in the first eight possessions. They finally broke through on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Zechariah Owens to Trevor Spady in the third quarter to cut into a 35-point deficit.
Owens tacked on a 10-yard TD run late in the third to make it 35-14, but Northwest didn't find the end zone in the fourth quarter.
The veteran Minnesota State squad rushed for 269 yards and passed for 209 as they controlled the contest throughout.
Northwest will get its next opportunity to get in the win column Saturday, September 6 when they travel to Topeka, KS to face Washburn at 1pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at noon.
