September 15 Bearcat Coaches Show

Northwest Athletics
Lily Gibler and the Bearcats will host Northeastern State Friday in the team's MIAA opener.

Northwest Missouri State will host volleyball, soccer and football on Family Weekend, while the cross country squads head to Lincoln, Nebraska for their first big meet of the year.

Bearcat football has made a tradition of wearing black jerseys for the Family Day game, but they will look a bit different this Saturday. Instead, Northwest will don black helmets paid for by the Bearcat Former Players Association. It will bring some additional excitement to a festive day as the unbeaten Bearcats host Missouri Southern. Head coach John McMenamin and senior right guard Harrison Merriman joined the show this week to discuss the early success.

Northwest volleyball is getting home in time to get on the right track. The Bearcats have hit a six-game skid after winning their first three matches of the season. This weekend marks their first home games of the year, and it begins with a match against No. 22 Central Oklahoma Thursday. Head coach Amy Woerth and senior Mya Karrick spoke about the adversity the team is battling and how they're overcoming it.

MIAA matches begin this week for Northwest soccer, too. The Bearcats faced No. 14 Pittsburg State last week in a non-conference battle in Maryville. Northwest is looking to build off of that as they face Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma. Head coach Marc Gordon and Lily Gibler said spirits are high and they're looking forward to the opportunities this weekend.

A full contingent of runners will be visiting Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend for Northwest cross country as they get set for the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational. A small group of women and men ran in the Griffon Invite over Labor Day weekend, but this week's meet will be the first time to open it up for the full squads. Head coach Myles Bach and senior Ian Schram discussed this weekend's meet and expectations for the Bearcats.
