Northwest Missouri State speeds toward Homecoming fresh off a perfect weekend in Maryville for volleyball, soccer and football. The week ahead includes the first postseason race for cross country in the form of the MIAA Championships.
Bearcat volleyball earned a pair of much-needed conference victories over Newman and Pittsburg State last week. The focus now shifts for its lone competition of the week Friday night — a grudge match against Missouri Western. Northwest head coach Amy Woerth and senior Karsen VanScoy joined this week's show to highlight the dominant victories and the mindset for round two against the Griffons.
The cross country schedule hits the postseason Saturday with the MIAA Championships. The race will be the first for Northwest in Pittsburg, KS since coach Wick Cunningham was a freshman on campus. The Bearcat men look to defend their conference title, while an emerging women's team looks to make its mark on the league. Cunningham, Olivia Bakker and Max Touron sat down to highlight the season to this point, and the approach for Saturday.
Northwest soccer is all alone atop the MIAA standings in late October for the first time in program history. The Bearcats, at 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the MIAA, continued to lock down teams with two more shutouts over the weekend. Head coach Marc Gordon and a pair of freshmen, Keira Morl and Sadie Lilienthal, spoke with John Coffey about the successful season and the upcoming road trip through Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State.
John McMenamin's return to Maryville has the Bearcats soaring. Northwest football has reeled off six straight wins, a top-20 ranking nationally, and a renewed excitement among the Green & White clad fans. Northwest runs into Nebraska Kearney for a Homecoming showdown Saturday afternoon. McMenamin and quarterback Zechariah Owens were guests on this week's show highlighting the team's success and the challenges ahead.
