September 16 Bearcat Coaches Show

Aaron Hare, Northwest Athletics

Northwest Missouri State soccer and volleyball wrap up non-conference play this week, while Bearcat football returns to MIAA action in Joplin. This week's show highlights those teams, as well as cross country, which travels to Nebraska for its next meet.

Bearcat football controlled the line of scrimmage in a home-opening win over Texas A&M Kingsville over the weekend. Head coach John McMenamin and senior Clayton Power joined the show to discuss the win and look ahead to Saturday's clash with Missouri Southern.

Northwest soccer split a pair of games in St. Louis last week. The Bearcats play on their home pitch Wednesday against Southwest Baptist, then travel to Oklahoma for an exhibition with Oral Roberts on Saturday. Head coach Marc Gordon, sophomore Lillie Shaw and freshman Norah Oyler talk about the willingness to play defense and the last couple opportunities for a tune-up before MIAA matches begin.

A tournament at Drury University brought about another solid weekend for Northwest volleyball, racking up three more victories to run its record to 5-2. Senior Ella Caffery was named to the all-tournament team, and she joined head coach Amy Woerth on the show to highlight the early season production.

After a week off, the cross country season kicks back up with the Northwest men's and women's teams running in the Woody Greeno Invitational. Bearcat coach Wick Cunningham, sophomore Olivia Bakker and redshirt freshman Riley Blay spoke with us about the opportunity to race again as they continue to build toward the conference meet later this fall.
