Close votes before Congress adjourns for another break

Thursday (July 23) was the last day Congress was in session until August 31st.

A floor vote on Thursday that passed by a margin of 214 to 208 was a resolution directing the president to end the war with Iran. Four of the five congressmen representing districts in the four state KXCV-KRNW listening area voted against the resolution. Missouri's Sam Graves was one of nine who did not vote. Voting no were Iowa's Zachary Nunn and Randy Feenstra, Nebraska's Adrian Smith, and Kansas's Derek Schmidt.

On Wednesday (July 22), another House resolution passed by a margin of 216-214. This was to establish the congressional budget for the 2027 fiscal year and set budgetary levels for fiscal years 2028 through 2036. All five congressmen in the KXCV-KRNW listening area were part of the majority vote.

Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after leading award winning news operations as part of a career that has also included sports, operations, management, and sales at public and commercial radio stations in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and the mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.
