The Big Muddy Duck Hunt, an annual Mound City tradition dating back to 2012, returns Saturday for a full day of outdoor activities and education for waterfowl enthusiasts.
A collaboration between local duck clubs, hunters, and the Missouri Department of Conservation, the event focuses on introducing new participants—especially youth—to the sport of duck hunting. Attendees will learn about firearm safety, hunting regulations, and conservation practices.
Jake Prater, reporter for the Mound City News, said the event plays an important role in keeping the area’s hunting traditions alive.
“It helps the youth understand duck hunting and why it’s such a big part of the community here,” Prater said in an interview with KXCV-KRNW.
Mound City is known for its waterfowl hunting opportunities and attracts visitors from across the region for its ideal climate and wetlands.
The Big Muddy Duck Hunt will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Mound City.
