MDC Hosts 39th Annual Fall Driving Tour at Poosey Conservation Area

Missouri Department of Conservation

The Missouri Department of Conservation will welcome visitors to the 39th annual Fall Driving Tour at the Poosey Conservation Area near Chillicothe on Sunday, Oct. 19, from noon to 4 p.m.

The self-guided driving tour allows visitors to view the changing fall colors along gravel service roads that are typically closed to public vehicle traffic. Brochures will be provided at the entrance, guiding participants along the winding lanes through forests and woodlands.

The event draws a variety of visitors, from those riding in trailers and wagons to horse-drawn buggies and cyclists. Interpretive stops along the route will highlight conservation practices such as timber stand improvement and native warm-season grassland management.

At the midpoint of the tour, guests can learn about the history of the Poosey area, view exhibits, and hear about ongoing conservation efforts.

High-clearance vehicles are recommended, and participants should expect a slow driving pace. For more information, contact MDC’s Chillicothe Office at 660-646-6122 or visit the Missouri Department of Conservation’s website.
