The City of St. Joseph has been awarded $252,000 in federal funding to improve pedestrian safety.
The goal of the grant is to improve pedestrian infrastructure at key crossings across the city. The project, called Safe Crossings St. Joseph, will install modern pedestrian safety technology at three high-risk locations.
The money will fund new pedestrian signals, Rapid Flashing Beacons, and other lighting fixtures.
The targeted areas include Krug Park, Hyde Park Avenue near the Benton High School, and 22nd Street near the Spring Garden Middle School.
The upgrades will improve pedestrian safety throughout the city, according to a city statement.
