For at least three months, the board of the Nodaway County rural water district has been exploring the idea of getting water from Iowa.
At Monday's meeting (October 26), the board approved spending up to $5,000 dollars on a hydrology study that the board's consulting engineer Brock Pfost says will provide information about the volume of water that could be sold by the Southwest (Iowa) Regional Water District and piped to the state line.
Pfost said after the study, they'll visit again with representatives of the Clarinda-based district.
The Nodaway County board has been discussing additional sources of water for its 2,800 customers while also wrestling with how to pass on rate increases coming from the city of Maryville on January 1, 2027 and January 1, 2028.
