October is National Electric Cooperative Month, with this year's theme being "Built For This Moment".

Savannah based United Electric Cooperative debuted this month a YouTube feature titled "Beyond The Lines".

Hosted by CEO Jim Bagley, he spent the second episode answering questions related to the topic "What Keeps Him Up At Night".

Bagley says he is most concerned about the balance of electrical and broadband service never going out and the economic constraints of running an efficient organization.

Bagley says one challenge that United Electric faces that the 7,800 members of the cooperative may not realize, is the national debt that drives up interest rates and the federal government borrowing more money.

Another challenge is adapting to changes in the consumption of broadband, where 20 years ago it was almost all from nighttime Netflix viewers and now it's the consumption by gamers.

Bagley says the first issue he thinks about is the safety of United's employees, followed by what has the cooperative done for the good of its members in northwest Missouri and southwest Iowa.

Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after leading award winning news operations as part of a career that has also included sports, operations, management, and sales at public and commercial radio stations in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and the mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.
