Eight cities in the KXCV-KRNW listening area are finalists for the annual Missouri Humanities Small Town Showcase.

The Missouri Humanities website has an online ballot listing 52 cities competing for one of five positions in the 2027 showcase.

The finalists include, in alphabetical order, Brookfield, Cameron, Milan, Brunswick, Salisbury, Stanberry, Trenton, and Weston.

The five receiving the most votes will work next year with Missouri Humanities on a film and a podcast about their city.

Missouri Humanities website says the showcase highlights the heritage and culture of Missouri’s small towns, sharing their unique stories of resilience, revitalization, and resurgence.

The online voting allows up to five selections and an unlimited number of votes.

The voting deadline is December 1st.

Winners in the 2026 showcase included Savannah, which has this description on the Missouri Humanities website: "Savannah, Missouri, located in Andrew County in northwestern Missouri. It has a population of just about 5,000 people, but the unique businesses, cultural offerings, parks, food, and events rival those of communities two or three times its size."

Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after leading award winning news operations as part of a career that has also included sports, operations, management, and sales at public and commercial radio stations in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and the mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.
