High school football will be played at Northwest Missouri State's Bearcat stadium Friday night (October 9).

It will be a matchup of two Iowa schools as Bedford hosts East Union.

Northwest athletic director Andy Peterson says he received the request from Bedford's athletic director last week after they could not play on their natural grass field.

Peterson says the new turf at Bearcat Stadium that was installed last summer makes it easy to modify the playing surface for the eight-man contest.

Bedford will be staffing the game; handling admission and providing the chain crew, the scoreboard, and the public address announcing among other things.

Peterson says Northwest's admissions office will be at the game to visit with high school students and parents.

This is the second high school football game at Bearcat Stadium in as many weeks, following a junior varsity game between Worth County and Albany.

Kickoff for the Bedford-East Union game is at seven p.m. Next door at Bearcat Arena, Northwest volleyball hosts Nebraska-Kearney at six p.m.

Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after leading award winning news operations as part of a career that has also included sports, operations, management, and sales at public and commercial radio stations in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and the mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.
