The Maryville city council at Monday's meeting (September 28) followed recommendations from the planning and zoning commission (P&Z) on three applications for special use permits.

One of two applications that were denied was from the new owner of a home who wanted to continue a short term rental permit that was held by the prior owner. Public works director Matt Smith said that was not allowed by right. P&Z recommended denying the new permit based on undisclosed neighborhood opposition. No issues at the applicant's address were reported to Maryville police.

A second special use permit request for a short term rental was unanimously approved. Smith reported there was no neighborhood opposition.

And the council denied a special use permit to allow a RV park inside the Maryville industrial park that was intended to be occupied by construction workers. Opposition came from the Maryville Industrial Development Corporation and Nodaway County economic development corporation.
