The homecoming parade in Barnard last Friday (September 25) for the Platte Valley high school football team...which is made up of players from South Nodaway, North Nodaway and Jefferson...included an entry from a political candidate.
South Nodaway superintendent Dustin Skoglund said advance permission was given to three candidates and a group opposed to the proposed data center that would be built in the South Nodaway district.
He says that's the first time in anyone's memory that there were entries from political and issue-related individuals and organizations.

The approval was given based on having not turned away past requests when someone asked to drive their vehicle or ride a horse in the parade.
Skoglund says this "might be a conversation that the school board and the community at large might want to weigh in the future", adding that they want to make sure that their focus is on the kids, which is what the parade is all about.
Last Friday's parade had 21 entries involving students from the schools that make up the Platte Valley athletics program.
