3,000 letters are in the mail, going to customers in the Nodaway County rural water district that action will be taken in October to raise rates.

There was no disagreement among board members that the increase will cover the $615,000 dollar cost of getting water from the city of Maryville next year.
One of five options the board discussed would mean no increase for about 600 customers who use less than 1,000 gallons a month and have a graduated increase where the more water is used, the higher the rate increase.
A woman in the audience from Barnard told the board that would mean passing on a 35 percent increase to a town that has mostly low income residents.
Board members asked for how much water is used in Barnard, Skidmore, Sheridan, and Clearmont...which make up four of the rural district's top six customers.
