September's meeting of the Maryville school board took place Wednesday night (September 16).
Among reports from administrators, the assistant superintendent shared that there was a meeting regarding a possible update to the Maryville High School stadium. The report did not provide any details of the gathering of administrators, board representatives, and someone representing a bleacher company. A second item involving the stadium is the completion of adding fiber internet to the the press box. And there has been an evaluation of current and incoming sponsorship agreements associated with district video boards.

The agenda included several items from the district's Northwest Technical School. More adult students will be going to the tech school. That's the result of an agreement with the Great Jobs KC organization where the tech school will offer training for emergency medical technicians, certified nursing assistants, and certified medication technicians. The tech school will also administer an assessment to measure adult learners skills in reading, math and language.
The monthly update from the tech school also reported 241 children are enrolled in online classes, which is up about 25 from last year. And the tech school's adult and community education program has served 172 people since July first. That's an increase of 37 from last year.

Another job training agreement that was approved by the Maryville school board is with the University of Missouri's after school network. This will provide a consultant to the Maryville district who will spend up to 120 hours assisting students, in among other things, in getting technology related jobs, education, and/or training.

The start of the new school year in Maryville public schools was a recurring theme in administrator reports. At Maryville Middle School, there was a staff addition of a full time reading interventionist to help meet the needs of struggling readers. Another item involving reading involved a meeting last month with administrators and teachers from the middle school and Eugene Field elementary to review updated information from the state regarding reading success plans at both campuses.
Board members were also told about administrators meeting with the elementary school's teachers and paraprofessionals who have some very challenging behaviors in those classrooms. And through the MU extension office, garden sheds will be placed at Maryville's early education center and Eugene Field elementary school. The board agenda also included accepting a grant from MU Extension for the educational gardening project.
