Nodaway County commissioners are reviewing a study done by the sheriff comparing the pay of his deputies with 16 other counties with similar assessed property valuations and local police.

Sheriff Austin Hann told KXCV-KRNW News that commissioners were receptive to his request.
Hann said "We're a very proactive, professional department and we need to be paying our people as such. And I think what bothered me was to see when you put it on paper it doesn't look like we are."
Compared to those he researched, Hann said "I feel like we're at the bottom of the list of agencies that are paying their people. And to me, I feel we need to be at the top of the list."
Hann is budgeted to have 18 deputies. He currently has three vacancies.
The sheriff also said he "walked away from the meeting with them feeling heard, like they (the commissioners) were going to take it and actually do their due diligence."
