Preview of the grand opening of St. Joseph's new multimillion dollar animal shelter

15 years in the making, Friday (August 28) is the grand opening of St. Joseph's new animal shelter.

A city Facebook post narrated by shelter employees shows off the more than $5 million dollar facility on the South Belt next to St. Joseph's recycling center.

The new shelter received $1.6 million from the shelter's Friends organization and $3.4 million from the city.

Friday's ribbon cutting starts at one p.m. On Saturday (August 29), the Friends group is holding a special grand opening adoption event that also includes guided tours, a donation drive for items needed for animal care and activities for kids.

Bill Oliver
Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after leading award winning news operations as part of a career that has also included sports, operations, management, and sales at public and commercial radio stations in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and the mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.
