There are measles cases in southwest Iowa.

As of Thursday (August 20), the most recent news release from the Iowa Health and Human Services Department website said as of last Sunday (August 16), there were 12 confirmed cases in the service area of Taylor County Public Health, which includes Taylor, Ringgold, and Adams counties.

The state of Iowa's news release says locations visited by individuals while contagious or who might have been exposed to measles listed Des Moines, West Des Moines, Clive, and Bloomfield. Prior to Sunday, there was one confirmed case of measles in Iowa.

Taylor County Public Health's Facebook page has had two posts as of Thursday with images and information that includes the timing of symptoms, call the health department or your healthcare provider before seeking in-person care, and promoting the MMR vaccine as the best protection against measles.

Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after leading award winning news operations as part of a career that has also included sports, operations, management, and sales at public and commercial radio stations in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and the mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.
