A Northwest Missouri State graduate had the rare opportunity this summer to be a solo public address announcer during the FIFA World Cup in Houston.

Heather Jordan, Northwest class of 2001, was the only woman to fill that role during the international event.

She listed as among the highlights of her FIFA work, announcing the first ever World Cup goals for Curacao and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the historic record breaking goal scored by Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, who became the first player to ever score in six different World Cup tournaments.

Jordan traced her initial interest in being a PA announcer while in high school in Pleasantville Iowa and visiting with the PA announcer before a state basketball tournament game.

Jordan was a freshman at Northwest Missouri State when she was given her first PA opportunity by then director of athletic communications and media relations Andy Seeley.

After graduating, Jordan combined her professional work as a broadcast journalist with PA announcing at Drake University in Des Moines.

Jordan and Seeley reconnected when she moved to Orlando and he told her about a PA position at the University of Central Florida.

When Jordan moved to Los Angeles, she initially did six sports for Pepperdine and now does eight sports for UCLA.

Her selection as a FIFA World Cup announcer followed PA work in the FIFA World Club Cup tournament last year, and before that being the stadium announcer for the Angel City Football Club of the National Women's Soccer League.

With the FIFA World Cup on Heather Jordan's resume, she is keeping her calendar open for more international events...including the women's world cup in Brazil next year and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Bill Oliver has returned to his alma mater as News Director for KXCV/KRNW after leading award winning news operations as part of a career that has also included sports, operations, management, and sales at public and commercial radio stations in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska.

A 1981 Northwest Missouri State University graduate, Oliver was deeply involved with KXCV and KDLX as a student, hosting music and news programs, calling sports broadcasts, and helping keep the station on the air after the 1979 Administration Building fire.

Oliver says his return is motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to give back to the university and the mentors who helped shape his broadcasting career.
