City manager Ryan Heiland said at last Monday's council meeting (August 10) the staff and public safety recommendation was to prohibit UTV's.

Heiland then said that staff could bring back regulations that allows UTV's on some streets as permitted in other cities.

A council majority saw both sides of the issue.

Councilman Bryan Williams said he saw some benefit, then added well intentioned things go poorly, that the city cannot "regulate stupid", and allowing UTV's would "be a law enforcement nightmare."

Councilwoman Erin Allen said "there's no absolute protecting everyone from everything. We have car wrecks every day and we're not having a conversation about making cars illegal."

The council was told a proposed ordinance could be ready for consideration at September's first meeting.

Between now and then, there could be a city survey to gauge citizen interest.
