A plane crash Tuesday night (August 4) north of Bethany killed the pilot.
A news release from Harrison County sheriff Trevor Place says deputies responded to an alert from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of a possible crash.
Deputies saw smoke in a field near Highway 69 and 245th Street. The deputies located a single engine aircraft which had crashed into a grove of trees.
Flight information indicated the 73-year-old pilot, William Anderson, took off from Peoria Illinois for an unknown destination at approximately 4:39 p.m. The crash of the
Piper PA-24 Comanche aircraft took place at approximately 6:53 p.m.
The cause of the crash is undetermined and is being investigated by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
