In the final week before the August 4th election, officials in public school districts continue to speak out in opposition to Missouri's Amendment 5.
Maryville superintendent Philip Pohren said on KXCV-KRNW's Spoofhound Spotlight that phasing out the state income tax for higher sales taxes would mean the loss of state revenue of at least $1 million dollars a year. And in Nodaway and other border counties, Pohren said there is the possibility residents will cross state lines to take advantage of lower sales taxes. Pohren expects if Amendment five fails, the governor will bring it back to voters.

In St. Joseph, the school board on Monday (July 27) unanimously passed a resolution in opposition to Amendment 5. The resolution read in part that passage would result in St. Joseph schools losing almost $14 million dollars a year in state funding. And the St. Joseph resolution also calls for all elected officials to reject policies "that jeopardizes the State's constitutional commitment to public education."
