The Maryville fire department's Facebook page has videos and photos of a recent training session where firefighters learned about responding to emergencies involving downed power lines.
Fire chief Jace Pine says Evergy staff brought their mobile demonstration trailer to show real life examples.

The chief says firefighters from Maryville and some of Nodaway County's 12 other fire departments were shown what happens when electric lines come in contact with vehicles, trees, mylar balloons, and fences.
Quoting the MFD's Facebook post, "It's one thing to talk about electrical hazards in a classroom. It's another to see them happen right in front of you. Training like this helps firefighters and first responders recognize hazards, make safer decisions on emergency scenes, and ultimately go home to our families after every call."
Pine says Evergy is one of the utility companies providing services in Nodaway County that provide training to firefighters.
