The Stanberry R-2 school board held a special meeting this month (July 13), where a proposal to adopt a dual sports policy for the upcoming school year was defeated.
A news release from the superintendent says the five to two vote followed board discussion on the proposal that was presented by administrators and coaches.
According to the news release, "Athletic Director Jeffrey Maronde and Dr. Davison shared with the board the administrative policy and agreement that was developed by the team of administrators and coaches. Board members shared their insights, concerns, and questions regarding this policy with one another and administration. At the conclusion of the discussion, a vote was taken to approve the dual sports policy, however, the policy did not pass (2-5). Stanberry R-II will not participate in dual sports for the upcoming school year. The MSHSAA required no activities week (“dead week”), will begin on August 1 and will conclude on August 9. Shortly after that week, football, softball, girls golf, and girls/boys cross country season will be starting soon."
