The Lied Public Library in Clarinda has received a $25,000 grant to expand adult literacy and digital skills programs.
The funding is part of the Association for Rural & Small Libraries' new Literacy Bridges initiative, which is supported by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. The two-year program is designed to strengthen adult basic education and digital literacy services while providing library staff with specialized training and professional development.
The Lied Public Library was one of 66 libraries nationwide selected through a competitive application process. The initiative focuses on Carnegie-built libraries serving small and rural communities, helping adults develop literacy and technology skills needed for employment, access to essential services and everyday life.
The Literacy Bridges program begins this month and will continue through October 2027.
