Missouri updates livestock movement rules to prevent spread of New World Screwworm

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has updated animal movement requirements to help prevent the spread of New World Screwworm, State Veterinarian Steve Strubberg announced.

Effective immediately, animals entering Missouri from a state that contains an infested zone must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection completed within 14 days of entry. The certificate must verify the animals were inspected and found free of New World Screwworm infestation. Animals also may not originate from or travel through an infested zone.

Animals moving directly from an infested zone are subject to additional requirements. Those shipments must have an entry permit issued by the Missouri State Veterinarian’s Office and documentation approving the movement.

Questions about the updated requirements may be directed to the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s Animal Health Division at animal.health@mda.mo.gov.
