The Missouri Department of Conservation will begin lowering Kendzora Lake north of Kansas City later this month as part of a major renovation project.
The department said the 35-acre lake at the Anthony and Beatrice Kendzora Conservation Area in Platte and Buchanan counties will be lowered several feet to allow crews to replace aging water-control equipment. Work is scheduled to begin in late June and continue through the spring of 2027.
During construction, public access to the lake from the north side will remain open. However, the south side of the lake and portions of the surrounding wetland area will be closed. Visitors are asked to avoid construction zones.
The renovation includes installing a new spillway, replacing overflow pipes beneath Union Mill Road and upgrading wetland water-control structures. Officials said the improvements will better manage high-water events and enhance wetland habitat.
Kendzora Lake is a popular fishing destination within the conservation area, which also features wetlands, timber, grasslands and wildlife habitat.
