A Nodaway County organization known as “Nodaway Says No” held an informational meeting Wednesday evening to discuss opposition to a proposed data center planned for southern Nodaway County.
The meeting took place on the front lawn of Salem Church near Pumpkin Center, where organizers encouraged residents to contact local elected officials and voice concerns about the project.
Group spokesperson Tim Schafer said public involvement will be key as discussions about the proposed development continue.
“Let your voice be heard because, like I said before, they work for us,” Schafer said. “That’s the biggest thing, getting people to show up and be that burr under the saddle to get their attention.”
Schafer also said the organization has retained legal counsel to assist in its opposition efforts.
“We’ve retained counsel to a lawyer in St. Louis that has dealt with data center cases,” Schafer said. “He has five data center cases right now that he’s working on, and he was successful with one and hopes to be successful with the rest of them.”
Nodaway Says No plans to hold another community meeting Tuesday at the Maryville Community Center from 6 to 8 p.m.
